Homeschool Curriculum – Can I Live Without It?

Many resources and curriculum packages are available for home schooling. This overabundance of choices can be overwhelming to many people. Do we really need a packaged curriculum or is there a better way?

Did you use a curriculum to teach your child to eat or talk? We teach our children many things using a natural lifestyle method. When it comes to learning, beyond life skills, we can also adopt a natural method and have even better results in some cases over using a more rigid approach.

This is not to say that you don?t have a plan. You still need to know what you want to accomplish and how you want to accomplish it, but it can be tailored and adjusted for your child.

Schools use curriculum because of the number of students they have to manage. They are required to teach certain concepts in a certain way to keep their teaching uniform. Curriculum has to use a more generic approach. Homeschoolers have the advantage of using different methods of teaching using resources that might not be able to be used in schools. The world is your curriculum.

Many resources are available for many learning styles. Homeschoolers can use games, cooking, throwing the ball to learn math facts, jumping up and down steps when they answer a question correctly, and much more. When a child doesn?t respond well to a certain approach, we can use a different style of teaching and save some frustration. If your child enjoys completing workbooks, then you can have them use workbooks and textbooks. If your child learns better by listening than seeing, then you can provide resources that reinforce that style of learning.

Whatever method you choose for home schooling, make sure you have a plan for your student. Get to know them well. Know how they learn best and approach their learning in that manner. They can even help you come up with a plan for what they will learn and how they want to learn it. You and your child know each other better than anyone else and know whether a packaged curriculum will promote the best learning environment.

Do You Know About The ?dumbing Down? Of The Curricula Nation Wide?

In reference to my previous post on students from public schools being so far behind, once they come to our school, here it is. First of all, many students do not get the one-on-one attention from their teachers so that they can ?get it.? I know want to ask why aren?t they placed in ?Resource? or ?special ed.? Many more students have special needs but the system will not permit classifying students with a handicap because funding is low and they feel like they cannot waste money on these students.

We know about the ?dumbing down? of the curricula nation wide through the ?School-to-work? program which was implemented several years ago. You have never heard about the school-to-work program? It equates school-to-work with school-for-work–that is, education and training programs in which preparation for work is explicitly a major purpose. Basically, the baccalaureate and advanced degree programs are not discussed here. The focus is on work-preparation programs that serve students in high schools or non-baccalaureate postsecondary institutions or out-of-school youth.

A key element of many, though not all, school-to-work programs is that they combine school and work during the same period of time. This may mean some hours of work each day, some days of work during the week, or some weeks working during the year. Combining school and work serves two purposes. First, it helps young people learn skills and knowledge to qualify for a full-time job in the near future. Second, it gives them the experience of using work to foster their own learning and thus contributes to their capacity for change and continued growth in the longer run.

Now what about the curricula for this program? It is not up to par because it has been weakened or ?dumbed down.? Students are asked at an early age, what they want to do in life. They are then placed in this tract and courses will be inflicted upon them so that they have to stay in this same path through high school. One example is this, where a student in the 3rd grade had to make a declaration as to what he wants to do when he finishes high school, he wants to go to college to become an attorney. That is too bad. He has been in this lower tract and he cannot be expected to pass the college entrance exam.

Can you determine the destination of the school-to-work program? We are heading into a socialistic nation. Our forthcoming president is more than glad to carry us all the way into Socialism. In my next post, I will discuss ?Socialism in a Christian Society.? In the meantime, how about reading 1984, which was written in 1949, by George Orwell. This book depicts all that we are seeing around us NOW.

Clues To Choosing A Home School Curriculum

With the luxurious features of regular classrooms these days, most parents had approved a latest kind of program that will develop their little kids with decreased money clip. This avenue is known as homeschooling.

Mostly, homeschooling is an enormous agent for moms who cannot economically adapt to the rapid pocketbook of enrolling their kids to junior high schools. Dads who selected for homeschooling had committed to give instruction their children in their own home, where they can monitor and leverage the cost needed in their children?s learning.

Without doubt, moms who opted for homeschooling are deeper justly and doctrinally worried. They believe that most kindergartens nowadays can no longer meet the required befitting learning wanted by their youth. Most dads persist that it would be better to give instruction their youngsters at home sweet home where they can conduct their youth?s learning.

In a general classroom, there are many instances that the curriculum given by the establishment is, greater routinely than not, a deviance from the upstanding standards of the community.

However, it does not go to show that deciding for homeschooling is a model chosen because not all of the core curriculum fitted for homeschooling are created akin. Consequently, it is still noteworthy that dads should be able to differentiate a good homeschooling study from those that will only waste your bucks.

Here?s how to do it:

1. Connection and sociable elements

A good homeschooling general education should put greater attention on socialization and Contact. Since the children are mostly at home while schooling their lessons, it is simplest if a homeschooling course of study be acquainted with agendas for Communication and societal with other little kids.

2. Adjustability

It is noteworthy for a homeschool curriculum to be adaptive. It should not compel you to stick to their approach even if you identify out in the end that it will not work for you and your kids.

A good homeschooling course of study should let you modify if there are things that need to be modified.

3.Comfortable and Agreeable

It is extremely noteworthy that the homeschooling curriculum that you will opt for is merited for you and your child. You should both be Warm with the curriculum.

Even if the manner sounds too good to miss, as tireless as you and you mere child are not Agreeable with it, then it will never work for both of you.

All things considered, if these three considerations are present in the general education of the homeschooling technique that you grasp chosen, the style will work for you. If not, then it was never good enough to ready up your son or daughter?s knowledge.

Using Calculators in Your Homeschool

Calculators are used in public schools. Calculators can be used in a homeschool. Calculators are neither evil nor a God-given right. Calculators are a tool that can help students do math faster, much like a computer will help students write faster. Calculators can’t really teach math concepts anymore than a computer can teach a student to write, but they can be a great tool.

When students are very young, the emphasis is on learning how to understand math. Once those concepts are understood, and the student is working in pre-algebra or algebra, calculator use is important.

Without a calculator it can be impossible do complete a home high school math assignment within a reasonable amount of time. Even with a calculator, high school math lessons can take one or two hours to complete, so calculator usage is important.

Calculators are used and encouraged on the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests. A student familiar and comfortable with calculators will score better on those tests than a student who rarely uses a calculator.

Public schools will often have a policy on calculator use. Read the Gadsden City Schools policy: “The broad range of mathematical topics addressed in this document, the problem-solving focus of the mathematics program, and the development of mathematical concepts in a hands-on environment demand that technology use be an integral part of the K-12 program. *Calculators are appropriate for exploratory purposes in Grades K-3 and should be used for problem solving in Grades 4-8. Calculators should be used on a regular basis in all courses and assessments in Grades 9-12.”Computer use should be integrated with content topics as appropriate.”

It is appropriate to use calculators for math at the homeschool middle school and home high school level.

Seton Home School

What is Seton Homeschooling? It’s hard to keep up with the altogether too many types of “movements” encompassed with the ever-growing population of families who are homeschooling their kids. Some are associated with distinct systems of beliefs, some are affected with non-religions beliefs, and some are just there.

Seton Homeschooling is one of the categories of homeschooling that is confounded with a dogma. Seton Homeschooling is a very renowned form of Catholic homeschooling that was promoted by Dr. Anne Carroll. As is interchangeable with ample sections of homeschooling, Seton has its roots in a physical middle school that was suited to supply dads an option to people schooling in their home. Likewise, as is often the case, this educational facility increased in fondness and there are a larger number of families who assume their kids to go along with this school, so the school develop homeschooling material. This is exactly what took place with Seton Homeschooling. It became very popular and the school could not handle all of the students who wanted to attend and the parents all couldn’t afford the tuituion.

As you very nimbly may be aware of, separate schools, such as Seton Junior Educational facilities, had extremely pricey tuition and the young people were separated from their families at a young age to live on the campus and come to the educational facility. As Seton began to advantage notoriety and their Catholic and school mastering reputation elevated, there were quite a few requests from moms who wanted their young people to solicit classes by correspondence. Seton began making the general studies available and now anymore they register almost 10,000 learners into their schools and several thousand more through homeschooling learners.

Seton believes that homeschoolers anymore are the leaders tomorrow and offers Catholic core curriculum for grades classroom through twelve. Their core curriculum places a premium attention on developing the youth’s Catholic religious belief as skillfully as emphasizing works of Western Civilization.
